About Tom
Tom's career began in journalism. He traveled around the world photographing stories with an adventure sports theme, from sea kayaking in Patagonia to mountaineering in the Himalayas. His assignments ranged from hanging out the door of a small plane in freezing temperatures photographing a famous Alaskan bush pilot to getting sunburnt photographing sharks and sea kayakers in the Bahamas....what a rough job! (he loves it.). More recently his work has involved shooting environmental portraits.

"Recently we photographed Billy Kidd and Nelson Carmichael, two Olympic skiers, for Sunset Magazine. We tried a variety of locations, but at the end of the day we photographed them on a mountain pass. The weather turned into a blizzard, and instead of hiding in the car, these two guys loved it! I guess when you ski your whole life, seeing a blizzard is reason to celebrate. I only wish our lighting equipment held up as well as they did."

Tom's work is regularly seen in numerous national publications. Tom was on the list of National Geographic Adventure's "50 of America's Top Visionaries" for his photography, and his images have been featured by Nikon in Nikon World Magazine. Tom also frequently writes photography articles for magazines including Outdoor Photographer and PC Photo. His images have been used in magazines, brochures, billboards, books, postcards, calenders...He has over 100 covers to his credit. He regularly teaches photo workshops, and is a member of ASMP.

Tom lives in Fort Collins, CO with his wife Cree and son Skyler. Most weekends they are out camping, climbing, canoeing or hiking.
