Last fall when Nikon announced the Plena I was putting in my order before I had finished reading the specs. I mean really, if Nikon gives a lens a name I am going to buy it! But on a serious note, the Plena is a breed apart. Certain lenses are exceptional in every camera brand…they rise above the rest in performance and optical quality. For Nikon their super telephotos with built in converters come to mind…the 400mm F2.8 is so sharp and beautiful I just want to take as many photos as I can with it. And have you shot the new 70-200mm F2.8? Incredible! The 135mm F1.8 is another one of these lenses. This focal length narrows the angle of view and produces beautiful bokeh at F1.8. And this lens is tack sharp wide open, you don’t have to stop down to improve sharpness.
Last fall on our Route 66 workshop we worked with some fantastic models in front of the classic Blue Swallow motel. This motel is probably the most famous motel on the entire route, a step back in time meticulously maintained with colorful neon and old cars. I was able to photograph the models in front the motel using the Plena, and Nikon just published the story here. Enjoy the read and have a great weekend!
